Martha Beck: 2. 1. So if youre in with a spider and you start to say, Oh, what about me? I remember talking to one woman who was, she was a client. Im really resenting talking to you for two hours a week so Im going to cut down to one. And you say, You know what? And apparently they invented these to make people feel worse, which is, I dont know, sorry for all our Russian friends out there. And that cut right to the day that Karen came to me because she got to know Rowan better than I really did and they were hanging out together a lot. Rowan Mangan: Do you think that with people who do feel entitled to that quality of care taking or whatever, do you think you can like restructure a relationship with them thats not based on that? And if you are a bear, and youre caught in a spiders web, really, like buck up. Rowan Mangan is a writer, podcaster and mom to a vivacious toddler. The good news? Martha Beck: What do you have to do is, no, no, no, no. And we also are a ecosystem that is very close and so we do talk about how the hell do people do it with two people. And when you find something that you dont want to do and you dont have to do, dont do it. Also later, you probably, Ive never mentioned this, I went to Harvard. And I dont know if all non-binary people are amazing, but damn, these one does. Right? I havent been successful at making everyone happy even though Ive spent myself trying to do it.. There are plenty of male codependents and male identified codependents, but it is true that its for anybody who is higher in the power hierarchy, theyre more likely to be conditioned to act like a spider.
